Uploading Observations
How to add Observation on a Computer using iNaturalist:
- Click on this Link or Google Ground Nesting Bees iNaturalist
- Alternately, click on the link at the bottom of the home page gnbee.org
- Click on the red “Add Observations” banner, which will direct you to create an account, or log in.
- Sign in to iNaturalist or create an account (it’s easy and takes under 1 minute!)
- For first time users, you will need to confirm your account via your email confirmation link.
- You can find the project by typing “Ground Nesting Bees” in the search bar in the upper left corner and clicking on the project Ground Nesting Bees. You will see the icon.
- Now you can explore the page:
- To add an observation photo to the page, click on the red “Add Observations” banner.
- Import a photo file from your computer and add the location of the observation, the date, and any identification or other notes you may have. This information may automatically populate if the photo was taken from your phone,
- Click the blue save observation button in the bottom left.

- You have now added your observation to the database!
- Congratulations you have just contributed to the goal of understanding and protecting our native ground nesting bees.
How to Add an iNaturalist Observation on a Phone:
- Go to the Appstore and search for iNaturalist
- Download the App and open it.
- Create an account. For first time uses, you will need to confirm your account via your email confirmation link. Now log in.
- Select projects on the bottom right-hand side of the screen.
- Under ‘Joined’, search for ‘Ground Nesting Bees’
- Now select ‘Join’.
- Under ‘Joined’, search for ‘Ground Nesting Bees’
- Upload an observation.
- Click on the bottom ‘Observe’ (camera) icon.
- Click on photo library and select the photos you want, and then press ‘Add’ in the top right corner.
- Select ‘what did you see’ and add your suggestion.
- Make sure you have chosen a location; you can zoom in on the map to show the area and press ‘Save’ in the top right corner.
- Then, select projects, and project Ground Nesting Bees should appear with the icon. Select the project.
- Report the number of nests entrances in the area (1, 10, 100, 1000, 10,000, etc.)
- Go back to details of observation and press done.
- You have now added your observation to the database!
- Congratulations you have just contributed to the goal of understanding and protecting our native ground nesting bees.
